Knysna Yacht Club
Newsletter - June 2014
Commodore's Corner

All Sailors have been busy last month with repairs of boats or catching up on other hobbies that we don't have time for during the Sailing Season.

We wish to welcome our new Club Secretary Tracey Young onto the team. Tracey is your membership Secretary and she is appealing to all members to pop in and introduce themselves. Tracey is keen to get some Members evenings on the go and is keen to hear from you.

Rob Clark has not left us. As Club Administrator his office is now above the Galley where he is dealing with the Finances of the Club.

Great specials have been enjoyed in the Galley last month and Asche's Cabin is incredibly cosy with the curtains drawn at night and the fire crackling.

Asches Cabin has a new look. Have you seen the new cushions for our new chairs there? They really do look superb and are very comfortable. The easy chairs have been moved back in and we would like to place another area of lounge chairs in Asches in the near future. We wish to make this the perfect place for you to kick off your shoes or watch the latest sports event with your friends.

This said, it is a busy and exciting sporting month to watch in Asches: the French Open in Paris, Field Hockey World Cup in The Hague, US Open Golf Tournament, FIFA World Cup in Brazil and Wimbledon starting on 23 June.

You cannot miss the Asches Friday night specials – each week will see different Shooters on special between 18h00-21h00 together with great value for money Hamburger & Chips or Fish/Chicken Snack baskets. Please continue to support our Club and join us on Friday nights for drinks and a delicious meal in the Galley.

Please diarise the new date for the Annual General Meeting on 26 June. Formal notice of the AGM will be posted at the club and sent out the first week of this month. This is the opportunity to hear about the functioning of your club and if you would like to be part of the team contributing to the affairs of the club please let Rob Clark in the office know.

For Sale
The notice board in the "Sun Room" next to the old Pub is for Members use. Notices for Members interest are to be put up there and will be left for only a month at a time unless otherwise signed off. All notices are to have one of the KYC Staff signatures please. Let's make this a useful and dynamic Notice Board. You will see that Tracey is keeping us updated with weather news there.

Note of Concern
According to our Logbook which lives in the entrance to Asche's Cabin the last sailors who left the Knysna Heads did so on the 1st of May ! Members – please remember to fill in this logbook everytime you go sailing – often we set off just for a cruise around the lagoon and end up going to sea. This is for your safety and a backup should you not be back when expected.
